Experience the Bamboo Eco Lodge
The wind in my hair and a few raindrops on my face, I lean back and enjoy the ride. Even the transport to the Bamboo Eco Lodge is exciting. As the boat carefully heads towards a resting viper, I hold my breath in excitement. Wow. Then the journey continues. A multitude of shades of green pass by, a macaw calls high up in the branches and when the first monkeys cross the bank, our luck is perfect. When we arrive at the jetty at home, we are greeted by cool fruit juice and smiling faces. Welcome to Bamboo. Curiously, I climb the wooden steps and explore the small lodge. I like the natural ambience right away. Beautifully made of bamboo and framed by the green of the woods, my exotic kingdom welcomes me for the next few days.
The Bamboo Eco Lodge consists of 11 rooms, a covered restaurant area, a viewing tower and a hammock lounge. The rooms are located in 4 buildings: there are two suite towers, a standard room tower and a family hut. Each accommodation is supplied with electricity day and night, has a private bathroom with running water and has a small balcony or terrace area for relaxation. The lodge provides towels, rubber boots and rain ponchos for its guests. Depending on the room, an occupancy of 2 to 5 people is possible.
All structures are made of bamboo and covered with a thatched roof, so that they blend in naturally with their surroundings. The beautiful bamboo look of the walls, ceiling and furniture creates a warm and cozy atmosphere that goes perfectly with a vacation in the rainforest. Guests of the Bamboo Eco Lodge enjoy a rich full board with 3 meals per day. In addition, water, tea, coffee and cocoa are available at all times. Good to know
What is special about the program at this lodge?
The Bamboo Eco Lodge is one of the few lodges in Ecuador that not only offers motor canoes, but also paddle tours. Paddling is active nature conservation and an authentic jungle experience. Your guide will be happy to lead you through overgrown river arms and to remote lagoons. In this way, the natural background noise of the forest can be enjoyed to the full.
In addition to canoe tours, jungle hikes and night trips are also included. You go on a discovery tour with your nature guide several times a day. Boredom is a foreign word for the Bamboo Lodge! A visit to the Siona community is also possible. For short trips you can focus on canoeing, hiking or culture.
How much luxury does the Rainforest Lodge offer?
You don't have to do without running water and electricity, even far away from civilisation. Even warm water is available at times. Please don't expect a hot luxury bath or high water pressure - you are in the middle of the rainforest. Electricity is generated by solar systems and, if necessary, by a generator and is therefore available around the clock. You can easily charge your cell phone and camera.
There is neither WiFi nor cell phone reception in the Bamboo Lodge. Here you can still experience the true luxury of not being available. There is a satellite telephone for emergencies. The beds are comfortable and have a good mosquito net. Furthermore, the very good hygiene of the lodge should be emphasized.
Does the Bamboo Lodge have a secluded location?
The lodge is located in the middle of the rainforest. There is no road. It can only be reached by boat. There are other jungle lodges at the Great Lagoon, but these cannot be seen from the accommodation and can only be reached by canoe. You also stay undisturbed when hiking.
The Great Lagoon, on the other hand, is also used by other lodges with motor canoes. Because of this, it can get busy there. At the Bamboo Lodge you have the option of switching to a paddle canoe and exploring lonely river arms.
What animals can you see in the Cuyabeno Reserve?
If you want to watch monkeys in the wild, this is definitely the place for you. AGE ™ discovered 5 unbelievable species of monkeys within 6 days. Three were seen close enough, or long enough, to be photographed properly. Even for the great primeval forest bird Hoatzin, there is almost a sighting guarantee.
Your guide will also find parrots, toucans, bats, snakes, frogs and leaf ants for you. Our personal highlight was the observation of an eating sloth. An unbelievable experience!
In the large lagoon you also have very good chances of the rare ones Amazon dolphins to see. AGE ™ could see their pale gray backs several times and hear the gasping breath next to the canoe. The stars of the night are tarantulas and caimans.
Is there anything to consider before a stay?
Buy mosquito protection that is not sprayed, but creamed. Otherwise, flying droplets could unintentionally kill rainforest animals such as tarantulas. Let friends and family know that you will not be online for a few days. A waterproof bag for your camera and sun protection for you definitely belong on the packing list. Sturdy hiking shoes are recommended. Alternatively, the Bamboo Lodge lends out rubber boots free of charge.
When can you go to your room?
Your first day begins with breakfast in Lago Agrio. Well strengthened, you will be picked up by the lodge's shuttle. At the entrance to the Cuyabeno Reserve, you change to a motor canoe. Exciting animal observations are already possible on a river trip of around 2 hours to the Bamboo Lodge. You will reach the accommodation at lunchtime. Then you can move into your room and have a delicious lunch before continuing to explore the rainforest.
How is the catering at the Eco Lodge?
The food is plentiful, varied and tasty. A hot breakfast with fresh fruit is served as well as lunch and dinner with 3 courses each. The dishes are a mix of European and Ecuadorian cuisine. There is something for every taste. Vegetarian or vegan food and gluten-free dishes are possible on request. The drinks offered are water, juice, tea, coffee and cocoa.
