Subantarctic Island
South Georgia
Gold Harbor
Gold Harbor is located in the southeast of the sub-Antarctic island South Georgia. The name of the natural harbor has nothing to do with valuable precious metal, rather Gold Harbor surprises with a priceless wealth of wildlife and nature. A unique composition of glaciers, mountains, rivers, ocean and waving animal bodies awaits visitors.
This is one of the most important breeding grounds for king penguins. The large number of breeding animals alone makes visitors pause in amazement. But other species of penguins can also be spotted in Gold Harbor and the beaches are crowded with huge elephant seals, especially during the mating season.
Tourists can also board an expedition ship South Georgia discover, for example on the Sea Spirit.
