For once, leave the modern world behind, immerse yourself in old traditions, reach for the stars and spend the night in a cave - this is what Heim im Fels offers. In many areas of Jordan the Bedouins traditionally lived in caves and in isolated cases this lifestyle actually still exists today.
Saif and his family left their life in the cave behind and now live in the Bedouin town of Uum Sayhoun. He is now offering the overnight stay to tourists as a special experience. The stone walls are painted with funny motifs from the movie "The Lion King" and his motto "Hakuna Matata" aptly describes the spirit of the Bedouins. They knew no time but the course of the sun. In simple cave life there was no luxury, such as electricity or running water; In return, however, its residents were not familiar with the hustle and bustle of modern times.

AGE ™ visited the Hakuna Matata Cave for you
The cave is an estimated 3 x 3 meters in size, equipped with several mattresses and decorated with a colorful wall painting. It is high enough to be able to stand without losing the special cave character. The mattresses looked clean and several blankets are available. The natural roof terrace invites you to dream and enjoy the stars and it remains a special feeling when you finally slip through the wooden door in the rock into your own little kingdom at nightfall.
Please note that this is a cave and not a hotel. This also means that there is no toilet and, understandably, no running water. But you can use Little Petra's public toilets during opening hours. You should also charge the battery of your cell phone and photo beforehand, because logically a cave does not offer any charging option. The host has already adapted to his clientele, so that there is actually a battery-operated electric light source. Unimagined luxury in cave life!

Where is the cave overnight stay?
The cave is located in Jordan near the city of Wadi Musa. It is only a few hundred meters from the entrance to Little Petra and can be reached via a short dirt road.
Which sights are nearby?
The historical legacy of Little petra is in the immediate vicinity and can be reached in about 5 minutes on foot. The main entrance of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Petra is less than 10 km away. The accommodation is perfect for a Hike from Petra to Little Petra. Anyone who has already admired the cultural sites of the Nabataeans will find the one just under 30 km away Crusader castle Shoubak Castle.

Is the accommodation clean?
It doesn't meet European hygiene standards, but it smelled clean. Anyone who has a good dose of thirst for adventure and is used to camping will feel at home. It is difficult to judge whether the blankets are washed regularly, but they were neatly unfolded and looked clean. The mosquitoes were a bit annoying. For an undisturbed Bedouin experience, AGE ™ recommends bringing mosquito repellent with you.
Does the cave have a secluded location?
Not quite. Opposite is a second higher cave, which can also be booked as accommodation. In addition, a Bedouin pitched his tent nearby and lit candles. The nearby village was neither visible nor audible. With a cloudless sky you can enjoy a great starry sky without disturbing lights.
Is the area in Jordan safe?
We felt completely safe. The people of Jordan are very hospitable and courteous. The country is also considered stable politically. There were a couple of stray dogs walking near the cave, so be careful when walking at night. The on-site experience refers to the end of 2019. It is always advisable to get an idea of the current situation for yourself. Overall, the environment seemed simple and original, but very peaceful.
Can you lock the cave?
The cave entrance is closed with a wooden door, so you don't have to worry about your privacy. The door has a padlock which your host opens for you when you check in. AGE ™ is also not aware of any mechanism to lock the door during the day. If you want to store luggage in the cave, for example, Saif will surely find a solution.
Does it get cold in the cave at night?
You don't have to worry about cold temperatures. The rock has a wonderfully insulating effect and it was pleasantly warm even at the beginning of November.
When can you go to your room?
Check-in is between 12 p.m. and 18 p.m. Please note possible changes. Since the host does not live on site, it is best to make an appointment in advance or to clarify that you should call us on arrival. Then the handover of the keys for your little kingdom will work without any problems. Saif is also happy to pick you up at the entrance of Little Petra if you have problems finding the cave.
