The UNESCO World Heritage Site Petra includes numerous tombs carved from sandstone. The richer the city became, the more people had a grave monument erected as a status symbol for their family. Most of the graves were built between the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD Roman theater of Petras, are summarized under the name theater necropolis. This was considered the oldest necropolis in Petra. In the meantime, however, it has been proven that the elaborately worked Al Khazneh Treasure House is older than these standardized graves.
