Under the roof of the 165 year old Rainhof barn, regional building culture and a piece of history meet with individual living ideas and the soothing luxury of our modern times. The beautiful accommodation is very close to Freiburg, in the tranquil Dreisamtal and is part of the Southern Black Forest Nature Park. As a cultural monument, the Rainhof barn promises a stylish ambience and a perfect break with that certain something.
Between 2008 and 2010 the historic barn was renovated, restored and expanded. Great emphasis was placed on carrying out all work in accordance with the monument and preserving the advantages of traditional architecture. With success. Those who spend the night here can feel the special energy that animates the house. Modern elements and ideas have been cleverly interwoven with the unique traditional building fabric. Each hotel room is dedicated to its own theme. The result is a wonderful ensemble of wood, stone and individual extras.

I lean back comfortably. My legs still tingle from the wonderfully cold immersion bath next to the sauna. I feel warmed up, refreshed and arrived. The fireplace crackles and a panorama window invites you to dream. I am surrounded by calm and a short slumber. I almost think I can smell the hay that was once stored here and my gaze wanders admiringly over the impressive wooden structure of the historic roof structure. The support beam stretches up next to me, massive and massive. And in a miraculous way it merges with the framework that towers over me. My eyes search for a moment, but not a single nail is visible. Wood engages wood. Seamless. Timeless. One floor below, the rustic flair of the hiking room is waiting for me. Lots of wood, soft light, brick walls and a rustic door tell whispered old stories here.

The Design Hotel der Rainhof Scheune is located on the 1st floor of the listed building and comprises 16 different themed rooms. The rooms have either a private shower room or a private bathtub. One floor higher, where the hay used to be stored, is now a beautiful wellness area with a sauna, steam bath, loungers, panoramic windows and a cozy fireplace corner. The tasty dining room on the ground floor takes care of your physical well-being. Where there used to be stables, the market barn and bookstore with a rustic ambience invite you to browse. An elevator is available.
Each room has its own style. The selection ranges from traditional parlors with lots of wood and rustic stone walls to classically elegant and modern interpretations. The double rooms of the Rainhof barn are spacious with around 25 square meters. The two suites are around 45sqm and have separate living and sleeping areas and a kitchenette. Wi-Fi, TV and hairdryer are available in all rooms. Toiletries, towels, slippers and bathrobes are also available. The generous breakfast is served with hot drinks, juice, bread, cheese, sausage, vegan spread, eggs, fruit and muesli. Particularly noteworthy is the listed solid building of the Rainhof barn made of thick wooden beams and brick walls.

What does a night in the Rainhof barn cost?
The regular price per double room is between 100 euros and 175 euros for 2 people. The prices depend on the season.

The Himmelreich train station is only a five-minute walk from the property and offers good public transport connections.

What makes the architecture of the accommodation special?
The Rainhof barn was traditionally built with brick outer walls, wooden inner framework and stone gables. It was built in 1857 without any machine-made nails or screws. Today it is a symbol of regional craftsmanship and a cultural monument. With an area of around 2000 square meters, the former barn is also one of the largest of its kind in the southern Baden region. The Rainhof Scheune was awarded the architecture prize in 2010 by the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects.
Are all the rooms in the Rainhof barn equally beautiful?
Every room is unique. Themed rooms such as the hiking room or the farmhouse parlor offer a lot of wood and reflect the history of the house particularly intensively. What is the history of the historic building?
The Rainhof was mentioned in documents as early as the 16th century. The traditional farm used to serve as a transformer station for carriages. Here the horses could be exchanged before the ascent through the Höllental. The Rainhof is located on the important historic trade route from Paris to Vienna.
In 1857 the Rainhof barn, which has been preserved to this day, was built. At that time the barn contained stables, a large room for unloading carriages and threshing grain, hay stores and rooms for servants. From 2008 to 2010 the Rainhof GbR renovated the historic building. The historical building fabric was preserved. Since 2010, visitors have been able to enjoy the special ambience as a hotel and restaurant. A wellness area in the rustic roof of the barn has been pampering guests of the house since 2013.
What does the Rainhof barn do for the environment?
A public transport card is included in the hotel price. Individual rooms even include bicycles or e-bikes. A charging station for electric cars is also available. As a certified restaurant of the Southern Black Forest Nature Park, the Rainhof barn supports local agriculture.
