Day trips to Komodo National Park
Even if you only have one day, you can get to know many highlights of the Komodo National Park and experience the Komodo dragons live. Your adventure usually starts early in the morning. In the evening you have solid ground under your feet again and are back in the port city of Labuan Bajo on Flores.
Speed Boat Tour
On a day trip by speedboat you can get to know many well-known places in the national park. Common destinations are: Padar Island Viewpoint, Pink Beach, Manta Point, Taka Makassar Sandbar, Komodo Island or Rinca. The activities are varied and mostly consist of snorkeling, a beach break, a short hike and a visit to the Komodo dragons. However, the length of stay per destination is limited accordingly. Depending on the size of the speedboat, group tours are offered for 10 to 40 people. The seats are usually in an air-conditioned interior of the boat. These tours are particularly suitable for solo travelers with a small budget or for tourists with little time.
Prices for a speedboat tour in Komodo National Park range from around IDR 1.500.000-2.500.000 (about $100-170) per person. Depending on the provider, boat, group size and tour length. Lunch is usually included. You should clarify in advance whether snorkeling equipment will be provided. National park fees are often payable separately. If you prefer a private trip but only have one day, you can charter a small speedboat privately. The cost for this is around 600 to 1000 dollars per group. As of 2023. Please note possible changes.

Private Boat Tours in Komodo National Park
A private trip through the Komodo National Park is a fantastic opportunity to explore the protected area individually. For example, you can visit Komodo Island early in the morning when the Komodo dragons are still active and before the day trippers arrive. Put your personal route together and take your time for what really interests you.
Boat charter with overnight on board
A private tour offers you the best flexibility and enough time to experience the special magic of Komodo National Park. The options are endless: observe Komodo dragons, bats, manta rays and sea turtles, explore coral reefs and mangroves, hike to viewpoints, relax on the beach or visit Rinca Island's Komodo Dragon Museum. It is entirely up to you how you set your focus. 2-3 days on board is a good period. Let the wind blow in your face on deck and decide for yourself whether you want to explore a lot in a short time or special places in peace and quiet. Depending on the size of the boat or the number of cabins, private tours for 2-6 people are offered. These tours are perfect for couples looking for a dream trip, for families and for groups of friends.
A private boat including crew and guide may be cheaper than you think: In April 2023, a tour with a private boat for 4 people was possible from IDR 1.750.000 (approx. 120 dollars) per person and per day. Example: A private tour (2 days / 1 night) with a visit to Padar Island, Komodo Island, Pink Beach and two other snorkeling stops as well as an overnight stay on board in Kalong Bay to observe bats was around 10.000.000 IDR (approx. 670 dollars) total price for 2 people or at 14.000.000 IDR (approx. 930 dollars) total price for 4 people. The national park fees were to be paid separately. Clarify in advance whether snorkeling equipment will be provided. As of 2023. Please note possible changes. Current prices can be requested from Senior Guide "Gabriel Pampur".
Tourist guide Gabriel Pampur lives with his family in Labuan Bajo on the island of Flores. For over 20 years he has been showing tourists his homeland and the beauty of the Komodo National Park. He has trained many rangers and is respected as a senior guide. Gabriel speaks English, can be reached via Whats App (+6285237873607) and organizes private tours. A boat charter (2-4 people) is possible from 2 days. The boat offers private cabins with bunk beds, a covered seating area and an upper deck with sun loungers. Island views, Komodo dragons, hiking, swimming and delicious food are waiting for you. With our own snorkeling equipment we were also able to enjoy corals, mangroves and manta rays. Make your wishes clear in advance. Gabriel is happy to customize the tour. We appreciate his flexibility, professionalism and unobtrusive friendliness and were therefore happy to be on board with him again.

Group trips to Komodo National Park
You have several days, but a private trip doesn't suit you? No problem. Shared excursion boats for multi-day trips through Komodo National Park are less common, but that is also possible. Alternatively, you can also take part in a combination trip for Komodo and Flores.
Multi-day travel packages
The program for multi-day tours varies greatly. For example, there are deals with overnight stays in Flores that combine an excursion program around Labuan Bajo with a day trip by speedboat to Komodo National Park. Alternatively, overnight tours are available, with the boat visiting both Flores shores and Komodo National Park. And finally there are boat tours, with a multi-day program in the national park. Such travel packages are ideal for solo travelers with time and a medium budget, for sociable travelers and for everyone who does not want to plan much.
A 2-3 day package that includes a visit to Komodo National Park costs around $300 to $400 per person. In addition to the pure tour length, you should always consider the actual length of stay within the Komodo National Park when making a comparison. Sometimes cheaper prices include shared sleeping cabins. The national park fees often have to be paid separately. As of 2023. Please note possible changes.

Transfer between Lombok and Flores
Many roads lead to Komodo. Low-budget travelers often decide against the plane and use particularly cheap public ferries to Flores. An interesting alternative for backpackers is a multi-day boat tour with snorkeling stops and a stopover in Komodo National Park.
backpacker tour
From Flores to Lombok (and vice versa) low-budget group trips are offered by boat. Although this is significantly more expensive than traveling by public transport, the price-performance ratio remains interesting for backpackers. Why? A stopover in the Komodo National Park with a visit to the Komodo dragons is already planned on this 3-4 day boat trip. Depending on the provider, other highlights of the national park are also approached. On the way, further island visits, snorkeling stops or even a snorkeling option with whale sharks can complement the program of the crossing. Accommodation and meals on board are included. The entire group usually sleeps on mattresses on deck.
There are various reports on the Internet that criticize hygiene or safety precautions on board. We have not taken part in such a journey with AGE™ before and can therefore not assess the ratings. However, two travel-loving girls that we met in Raja Ampat and Flores were absolutely thrilled with their tour. The price for such a backpacker tour in the Komodo National Park is around 300 - 400 dollars per person, depending on the provider and the boat.

Liveaboard 4-14 days
For longer liveaboards of 5-14 days you will find numerous providers online. Some start from Labuan Bajo and focus on Komodo National Park. Others, for example, start in Bali and integrate Komodo into a multi-destination liveaboard in Indonesia. Especially if you want to dive further south from Labuan Bajo in addition to Central Komodo and North Komodo, a longer liveaboard is the perfect choice. Prices for liveaboards in Komodo National Park vary widely, ranging from $200-$500 per day. National park fees are usually paid separately, and port fees, fuel fees and rental equipment are often listed as extra costs. Compare the offers carefully. Arrival & Overnight Labuan Bajo
Possibilities and prices for arrival
Most tourists use the island of Flores or its port of Labuan Bajo as a base for visiting Komodo National Park. From Labuan Bajo, excursion boats and dive boats leave for Komodo National Park every day.
Arrival by plane
The easiest way to get to Flores Island is by plane from Bali: Denpasar International Airport has good domestic flights to Labuan Bajo. The cost is around $60 per flight per person. Please note possible changes. As of 2023.
Arrival by sea
The cheapest way to get there is by public ferry. However, you should plan your time, because some ferry connections are only served once a week. Possible Route: Benoa (Bali) Ferry -> Lembar (Lombok) Ferry -> Bima (Sumbawa) Ferry -> Labuan Bajo (Flores). Total cost is around $20 per person. Please note possible changes.
Alternatively, you can use a Boat tour from Lombok to Flores book. On this 3-4 day trip you can enjoy a few stops along the way and in Komodo National Park. The tour costs about 350 dollars and is a mixture of arrival and adventure tour.
Possibilities and prices for an overnight stay
Almost all tourists stay overnight in Labuan Bajo before or after a Komodo tour. The harbor is also a very good starting point for day trips. Day trips to the Komodo National Park as well as to sights on the island of Flores are offered there. There are places to stay in Labuan Bajo to suit all budgets.
Low budget accommodation
Homestays and hostels offer a home to backpackers and individual tourists who like to get in touch with locals. Prices are around $10 to $20 per night for 2 people. Sometimes there is only one bed, sometimes even a small breakfast, occasionally also air conditioning. Many cheap accommodations in Labuan Bajo offer running water, but mostly no hot showers. Please note that homestay toilets are sometimes outside of the residence, are often shared and do not meet European standards.
Upscale Accommodations
If you would like a little more luxury on holiday, you will also find many beautiful apartments and rooms with a high standard in Labuan Bajo. The Golo Hilltop Hotel, for example, offers a nice ambience with a great view for 40 to 50 dollars per night for 2 people. For hotels with a private beach, you should check the reviews in advance. Unfortunately, many beaches in Labuan Bajo have a garbage problem (as of 2023). Fortunately, the Komodo National Park itself is very clean.
Luxury accommodations
The Sudamala Resort offers an upscale ambience with a large outdoor pool for 100 dollars per night for 2 people. Of course, there is also a much more exclusive option. You can also stay in suites with a private pool or in resorts on small private islands off the coast of Labuan Bajo. Prices range from around $200 to $500 per night for 2 people. Especially since the government has repeatedly Entry fee increases announced for the Komodo National Park, more and more luxury hotels are being built.
