Jordan Jerash south gate 129 AD with Corinthian columns Gerasa Jordan

The south gate of the ancient city Jerash in Jordan is estimated to be around AD 129. The Corinthian half-columns are enthroned on high plinths and its three passages are reminiscent of the one built a little later Triumphal arch. In the 4th century the southern gate building was integrated into the city wall.

The old roman city Jerash was known in its heyday under the name Gerasa. In addition to the south gate of Jerash, it has many others points of interest & sights to offer.
